Frequently Asked Questions
This information is presented to cover the most commonly asked questions. Please contact us to arrange a free, no-obligation consultation during which we can answer any further questions relating specifically to your tattoo and your goals for the treatment.
How does the process work?

In simple terms, the laser fires an intense pulse of light that travels through the skin and impacts with the ink causing it to break up into tiny particles. The body's immune system then flushes these particles away resulting in the fading and removal of the tattoo.

How many treatments will be required?
Every tattoo is different and every individual responds differently. The number of sessions needed will depend on several factors including whether you want the tattoo removed completely or just faded before getting it covered up, the age of the tattoo and the quality of inks used, as well as whether it was tattooed by an amateur or a professional. You may only require 1-3 sessions to fade a tattoo, an amateur tattoo done with poor quality ink may only take 3-5 sessions, whereas a professional tattoo might take 6- 10 sessions or longer. We'll be able to offer a more accurate estimate once we've seen your particular tattoo.

What are the costs likely to be?

The cost of a single treatment will depend on the size of the tattoo. Price is based on the length of the treatment session so larger tattoos naturally take longer to treat and cost more per session. We do offer package deals for clients who book multiple sessions. Please see our Pricing page for a more detailed look at our pricing plan.

How long does the treatment take?

The length of the treatment naturally depends on the size of the tattoo. A treatment for a small tattoo can take anywhere between 5-10 minutes, whereas a larger area will take longer. Laser sessions are limited to a maximum of 30 minutes per sitting, so larger tattoos covering a bigger area may require 2 or more sessions to complete.

Does it hurt?

Laser tattoo removal can certainly be uncomfortable, depending on the type of tattoo, the the length of the laser session, which area of the body is being treated, and how robust you're feeling that day. You should expect the treatment to be no less painful than having the tattoo done initially (unless your tattooist made the experience unnecessarily painful for you!). We can offer advice on pain relief during your consultation. We also sell a specially formulated topical anaesthetic cream that numbs the skin for a much less painful procedure and is advised for anyone with a low pain threshold.

Do all tattoos respond to treatment?

With the Nd:Yag technology we use most colour inks can be removed. However there are inks like white, yellow and bright green that can be very stubborn if not impossible to remove. We can advise you as to whether this is likely to be an issue once we've seen your tattoo.

Will all of the tattoo disappear?

While many of the tattoos we treat do fully disappear, no one in the laser removal industry can guarantee 100% removal to any of their clients. However, we do expect to remove at least 95% of the ink, possibly leaving a few blemishes. We are confident that no other laser clinic can produce better results.

How long should I wait between treatments?
We recommend that our clients wait at least 6-8 weeks between treatments. While normally the healing process only takes between 3-14 days, the additional time between sessions is to allow the body's immune system a chance to flush away the ink particles broken up by the laser treatment. The 6-8 week wait between sessions ensures you get the most of out of each session, meaning you'll need less sessions and save more money than if you booked them closer together.

Will the treatment cause scarring?
While we expect there to be no scarring caused during your treatment due to the high quality technology used, there is always a small risk of scarring in some skin types due to the genetic predisposition to forming scar tissue. Tattoo removal was previously associated with scarring because the first lasers used for the procedure were very aggressive. Thankfully this is no longer the case with our state of the art laser technology due to its improved ability to focus the energy more effectively on the tattoo pigment while not significantly heating the surrounding skin. The greatest risk to the skin is during the aftercare period. If the individual picks and scratches the skin then this can damage the skin and effect the results. If you look after and moisturise the skin regularly you'll get the best outcome.

Can you remove tattoos from black skin?

Yes we can remove tattoos from black skin but only those done with black ink. This is due to the effect on skin pigmentation when using the laser wavelengths necessary to remove other colours.
